A place where I develop as a creative, and where you can see it happen.
Hookay, first blog post, take 1....
First of all, I'd like to thank you for stopping by my photography blog. This is a brand new challenge for me, and I'm excited to see where I can go from here :)
So how did I get here?
So how did I get here? Well, I am currently a full time forensic photographer (#coolestjobever) with a Canadian police service, and I process scenes for evidence, alongside the photographing part. I absolutely adore my career, but it's a very different style of photography then what most people think of when I say "Oh I'm a photographer!". I fell in love with my camera in school, and wanted to start doing artistic photography. I really just started playing around, and I loved seeing the images that I could create.
After a while I realized that I wanted to start developing my photography into a business, but didn't really know what direction to go in. I started submitting some of my photographs to stock websites such as Shutterstock and Getty Images, but that didn't quite fit right. In February 2018, after much research and indecision, I opened my Etsy shop, Shoot Something Photos, where I have more creative license over the images that I can create and list. With every list I add on Etsy, I'm excited to be able to provide clients with an image that sparks in them the fire that photography sparks in me.
What I didn't expect was how exciting having an Etsy shop would be!
What I didn't expect was how exciting having my own Etsy shop would be! Figuring out the set ups, researching SEO (which I had never heard of before) and learning about marketing has been more interesting than I thought it would be, thankfully. Because man, did I have a lot to learn. An am still learning to this day.
Over the last 6 months I've evolved to where I felt like my photography needed its own home, where my photos can live and be showcased, and where others can comment with their improvements or technique ideas. Or even just to stop by to look at some pretty pictures :)
What should you expect from Shoot Something Photos?
So what should you expect from Shoot Something Photos? I am hoping to add more albums to my showcase monthly as I gather collections and continue to photograph. I am hoping to hop on here and write about where my development as a creative is taking me. Whether that is literally my photography travels, or sharing my trials and tribulations of trying to shoot in natural light while living in a basement apartment. Trust me, MacGyver ain't got nothing compared to my inventive ways to rig up some appropriate lighting, hah.
Photography sparks a fire in me.
Ultimately, I'm hoping that the content I create here will spark the same fire in you that I have for photography. Whether that leads you to my Etsy page where you find affordable solutions to your empty walls problems (pardon the plug) or if it leads you to pick up your camera and shoot something, I consider both to be a success on my part. If you want to leave a comment or question, drop me a line on the Contact page!
Until next time,
Emily-Rose
